Why Lipo Battery Become So Popular in RC?

Apr 29th 2015

The future is here when it comes to Lipo Battery. LiPo batteries (short for Lithium Polymer) are a type of rechargeable battery that has taken the electric RC world by storm, especially for planes, helicopters, and multirotor. Tattu LiPo batteries have the advantages of small and light, high capacity and high discharge rate. 11156350_826457814107542_1021115929832280349_n Although Lipo battery advantage outweight disadvantages, here Tattu tell RC fans that there is no perfect power solution.
  • RC LiPo batteries require unique and proper care if they are going to last for any length of time more so than any other battery technology. Charging, discharging, and storage all affect the lifespan – get it wrong and a LiPo is garbage in as little as one mistake.
  • Safety issues - because of the volatile electrolyte used in LiPo’s, they can burst and/or catch fire when mistreated.
  • RC LiPo batteries are still expensive compared to NiCad and NiMH, but coming down in price all the time.
However, although Lipo battery has some disadvantages, it wasn’t until LiPo battery technology arrived on the scene that electric planes, helicopters, and later on multi-rotor started showing up and are now surpassing nitro power and even turbine in terms of power to weight ratios.
